What should be the goal of an interrogation?
Really the goal is to gain a confession and attempt to get any monies and property back, however, the primary goal is to find the guilty subject and remove that person via a "clean termination" to prevent further problems in the workplace.
A word about prosecution. Many people believe that prosecuting an individual found to be stealing in the workplace a wise decision. Unfortunately they don't think of the fact that there will be a lot of un compensated time involved in witness testimony, you probably won't see a dime of your money back, and though he or she may be prosecuted, did this send a message to the other staff at your organization? Yes. The message it sent was that the employee who was caught was careless and it will never happen to me. This is why a clean termination is good (along with a recovery if at all possible). Note, that in California, you can NOT hold a check for restitution.
